6 Reasons You Should Take A Break

2015/03/04

1If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. – Ferris Bueller

1)   Gain Perspective

Take time to evaluate where you are in life and what you like about your life. This isn’t to say you need a life change or that anything in your life is negative or draining, but it’s important to take stock of what you have in order to see what you value in yourself and others.

2)   Flush Your System

On a daily basis your brain is filled with the useless information work brings you and the mountains of stress that trails behind that information. Take a break to flush all this useless junk out of your system because at the end of the day does it really matter that you forgot to put a cover on your TPS report?

3)   Find/Reinvigorate your Passion

Maybe you forgot what you love a long time ago or maybe you still love doing it, but dedicating some time towards doing what you love is one of the best breaks from the dull drudgery possible. Often times you may have forgotten how much you love to draw or how much playing the piano means to you, take some time and try again.

4)   Spend Time With Loved Ones

This includes alone. Aren’t you a loved one? But in all seriousness sometimes showing that you care and knowing that people care for you is a great way to soak it all in. Even if it’s just you getting away from work for a while, lazing around on the couch and watching TV you’re reminding yourself that it’s okay to just be you.

5)   Take Your Time

One of the best reasons to take a break is to see where you’re at in life. The last thing you want is to look up and realize that you’re 60 years old and you’ve accomplished nothing that you wanted to with your life. That means take stock of what you find important and make sure you pursue it.

6)   It’s Good For You

Let’s be honest, even if you don’t see the value in it – it’s good for you. It’s good for you to take a little “me” time, regardless of how you choose to spend it. Don’t let yourself get taken away by the daily activities you do in order to make ends meet, remember that it’s the space between the cracks where life happens.
