7 Little Changes that make a Big Difference

2015/02/18

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. – Maya Angelou

1) Not Hitting “Snooze”
Sometimes it can feel a whole lot harder than it really is – but getting out of bed is a kick starter to everything; your day, your breakfast, your life – EVERYTHING waits for you just outside your bedroom. So stop hitting that snooze – it isn’t going to make you feel any less tired all you’re doing is wasting a few extra minutes, instead spend that time doing something productive; go for a jog, have some breakfast, lay out your clothes for the day so you don’t feel so rushed.

2) Drink water when you’re hungry
Your body can be very tricky and often times it tells you it’s hungry when it is really thirsty – so do this; next time you’re sitting there watching TV and you feel like you could go some snacks drink a big glass of water instead. The rule of thumb here is ESPECIALLY if you don’t know what food you feel like – your body is telling you that it needs water.

3) Say “Thank you,” and “I’m Sorry.”
Sometimes even if you’re right and you know you’re right it’s better to say you’re sorry; yes it’s tough and pride is a tricky sin to ignore – but trust me; sorry is a word that when said with honesty can make the world of a difference to someone. If you’re truly are right in the end 9/10 times that person will come back later and admit that they are Sorry as well – if not – then they’re probably your Boss, so suck it up.

4) Take a deep breath
I find that when I have a headache there are a number of causes that could be behind it; so I usually go through the check list – not enough water, not enough sleep, not enough food, etc. more often than not however it all comes down to breathing. We’re so caught up in our tiny iPhone’s and tiny screens and tiny books that occasionally we need to stretch out and breath deeply – letting all that precious oxygen into our lungs that they so desperately needed.

5) When leaving a room – bring something that needs to be put away
This is beyond easy and it makes everything a little cleaner. Everyone makes a mess – it’s in our nature so the next time you’re sitting in the TV room and you go back to the kitchen – bring that magazine you left behind – or bring that bowl you left for cereal, you will be unknowingly tidying up after yourself and it prevents the need for a whole house clean when things eventually get out of hand.

6) Remember Birthdays
In this age where every device has a calendar on it, you have literally no excuse as to forgetting someone’s Birthday and if you do often forget than make a little extra effort and write it down. It shows someone that you remember them, that you care about them – and whether or not they are happy that they are turning another year older – it at least shows that you are thinking of them. It’s easy and above everything else – it’s just a kind thing to do.

7) Calm down before reacting
As Ice Cube said, “Check yourself before you wreck yourself,” which essentially means take a step back and examine your actions, because you are in a potentially dangerous or sticky situation that could get bad very easily. More importantly you may end up saying things that make you regret your actions – which is never good. Before entering a reactive mode breath – and think about what you want to say before actually saying it.
