B.C. Mayor Quits, After a Month

LILLOOET, B.C. – One month to the day after he was sworn in for his first term as mayor of Lillooet, B.C., Ted Anchor has submitted his resignation.

Acting Mayor Wendy Parker says Anchor and councillor Kevin Taylor submitted terse letters of resignation on Thursday.

She says neither man has explained why they are leaving their posts in the community on the edge of the Cariboo region, about 240 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.

According to Parker, both Anchor and Taylor went to the local newspaper and offered what could be more detailed letters, immediately after handing one sentence resignations to the district’s chief administrative officer.

The acting mayor says she will move to accept the letters of resignation when council meets this afternoon.

A byelection will have to be called to fill the vacant positions.
